We are working with our Golden Bead Materials and small number cards that we created at home.
Our version of Golden Bead Multiplication begins with a number that either of us create. In a class room this would be done with a group of children, here we have three wooden children.
We retrieved the bead quantity for each number, and completed the addition.
We have done a lot of exchange work and dynamic/carrying addition to lead up to this lesson.
We have his Golden Bead Tray set up right beside him for easy retrieval. We did start off doing this work without writing anything down, and simply using his large number cards to form the answer. He is now recording his work.
Counting and exchanging to complete the addition. To see this lesson and how this work is done in a class setting check this out here and here and here . This lesson can be found in Montessori Math Manual Montessori Research & Development.
