Decurion Division, Montessori Math At Home

This is a quick snap shot of how we did this presentation in our home.  This is our adaptation that worked well for us.

We started with a review, and a basic division layout with 12 "wooden" kids.  This was time consuming (being part of the point), but well understood.  So we moved on to decurion division (two digit divisor) and trays.

I presented this according to my Montessori Research and Development Manual with a few "minor" adjustments.
We still used our 12 wooden children.  This time they were arranged behind their representatives (Hero Factory) standing beside coloured blocks 2 green (units), and 1 blue (ten), on three trays.  Xander called the kids their minions.
Basically the (unit) Hero Factory men got a share of one for each of their children, and the (ten) Hero Factory distributed a share of ten to his ten children.
Xander understood the concept really well, and by the end of this work session he was for the most part doing the work on his own.

So we moved on to the centurion division presentation.
For now we are stamp game bound!!

We had a visitor and Xander was quite adamant he should have seated himself on the unit tray!!

We used trays with coloured sheets of paper lining them to represent units, tens and hundreds instead of mats. I also placed number cards beside each child representing their share.

This was a lot of fun for us in terms of a presentation. I do see Xander is more interested in abstract problem solving in terms of division and multiplication.
