We moved our home education space!!
This table and folding chairs are from Ikea. I love it because we can fold down the leaves and set it a side to open up a large floor area. There are six good size drawers for storage.
This signed print was a gift from my mother for the room.
This is our latest evolution for our Montessori space at home. Our children spend the majority of their time in various room about the house, but sometimes choose to be in this space. I love how accessible and easy it is for them to find what they are looking for. This has been a fun space but as with all things, I see it changing again in the near future.

DeleteThis is amazing! I actually use the same "shoe" shelf system in my home. It's so convenient and you can buy them as you need them. I was wondering if everything you have pictured is EVERYTHING you have, or do you have stuff stored away in another space somewhere? My shoe shelves only go up about 3 tall but I need to store more stuff for ME to be able to access and no necessarily the kiddos. Is that what you use the upper parts of the shelves for? Thanks for sharing! Oh and one more thing....are your maps in a 24inch shoe shelf? I cant' tell exactly by the picture. My maps fit perfectly in the 24 inch one but I'd need to add some divisions to hold al the maps in one shelf...it would be a lot cheaper than ordering the map shelf from a Montessori company.

No this is not everything in terms of educational materials, but it is everything Montessori:) I do use the taller uppers for work they are not doing, or ready for yet. I also use the closet for LOTS - the doors are just not on yet...still...lol. Outside the door there are built-in bookshelves (part of the upper stair hall) filled with books and such also.
DeleteThe map shelf is actually melamine shelving that my husband put together to house all of the maps and control maps. Basically he cut a bunch of shelves to the width of the puzzles, and capped the ends - so basically a version of what you are thinking of doing. It works extremely well, and was cheap!! We just sat the unit in our (Billy) Ikea bookshelf (the two taller ones). I also have hooks on the back of the door for our various mats - continent and such - hanging on pant hangers...not sure if I mentioned that?
Tucked on the inside end(hidden) wall of the closet is a hanging shoe rack with clear pockets that is full of office type stuff. There are 6 drawers in the table that are filled with office stuff also.
There is also a tall tower shelf unit in the closet beside the large tall wide one - you can sort of see a sliver of it to the right. It is filled with paper, manuals, and other print and office stuff.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cristina!! It's wonderful you have been making materials!! We loved making everything that we could it was big help interms of cost and shipping. There are so many more things I would have made now looking back especially elementary materials. There are many materials because this room is filled with elementary work as well. It can be tough to fit it all in. Our kids are 4&7, so there is a range of things going on. Thank you for checking us out!!

ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila!! The bulk and majority of what we have was purchased from Kidadvance. They had great customer service and the materials were all wonderful. I found that they had the best shipping as well.
