Early Fraction Exploration On The Light Table

They are beautiful and lovely to touch and handle, so it is not surprising.
This was Xander's direct introduction to fractions here when he was five, Ava will have similar lessons a little later.

She is also sorting and assembling fraction squares, and circles (inexpensive overhead sets) that are fun and beautiful to use, especially on the light table. I also made a simple set of triangles here.

We are chatting about how many pieces we can use to make one whole circle, and introduced halves. She has started overlaying and comparing pieces on her own. We have also chatted about equal parts.

She is also patterning with the circles, and experimenting with different pieces to try and form the circle:) It is amazing to see what self guided discovery leads to... she is discovering equivalent fractions.

We bought out fraction circles and squares from amazon.com

This was such a fun sensorial way to explore fractions!
