Ava is continuing on her pre reading journey. She has started story sequencing activities. We started with a set of cards that I put together with very simple concepts to make the introduction. Then we moved on to this boxed set.
Here are the newly published sets available of these.
Story Sequencing sets help to develop logical thinking skills. They help to develop story telling, and vocabulary. Indirectly this builds organization of thought for future written work.
This is a great box set featuring 4-scene sets to place in order. We started with one set at a time. We chatted about what was happening in each picture. Then Ava placed the cards in sequence. If she had difficulty we talked about the current photo, and the possibilities/predictions of what may happen next.
After she sequenced the cards, she told the story of what was happening.
These cards are also printed on the back for self correction.
Later you can lay out several sets for sorting, and then sequencing.
Montessori has many forms of early & advanced sequencing that spans all subjects and levels of learning for example: study of plant & animal life cycles. Many start out with images for sequencing, and then later the addition of descriptive text.
This is a fantastic post from Just Montessori detailing pre reading materials here. Here is a simple diy set. This another great post. There are so many ideas out there!!
If you have a resource or post to share about sequencing or
pre reading please share a link in comments!!
These are the sets of cards I created for Ava to get started.
All but two of the sets (1&4)are my own photography. The kids were pretty excited about this!!
