This has been one of our favourite Christmas Craft projects to date!!
We created these a couple of years ago, and we are about to have another go! I have been able to store these in large plastic bags to return each year.
This was a fun, MESSY project for the kids.
We used a really simple warm water, flour and glue mixture.
Xander was so funny because he was not thrilled with having the paste on his hands at first!
We managed about three coats of newsprint on the balloons.
We were going for a very bumpy texture.
Once the balloons were dry we cut the bottoms out of them to sit flat on the base, and one another. I used hot glue, so the kids helped to place the snow balls and hold them steady till they setup.
Xander rolled some paper to make cones, crumpled them a bit and glued them to the men.
LOTS of painting in white acrylic, the gloppier the better!! They glopped on several coats and then sprinkled the last coat with glitter.
The eyes, mouth and buttons were rocks from a Playmobil construction set. Ava is creating one this year and I think we'll just use rocks for the face, or perhaps she will want to pick some fun buttons and pretty colours for the scarf. I'll share what she makes.
To make the scarves we cut out tons of squares of felt. They laid them out in the pattern they liked, and I hot glued them together. They snipped the ends to create a fringe detail.
