Native North American Unit, North West Coastal People Part 2

As I mentioned in our previous post we took an amazing vacation to visit family on the West Coast of Canada, British Columbia.
We spent time in Victoria, Vancouver, and cross border in Seattle. This was an amazing inspiring experience.

The Royal BC Museum has an incredible collection of Native Exhibits!

It is easy to see why Xander was so inspired, all of us were for that matter!!

Breathtaking could describe pretty much the entire vacation!

Miss Ava was a great leader 😃

Incredible!!

We set about gathering lots of books and materials, to create a North West Coastal Miniature Environment!

This was his inspiration photo from Houses of wood (Native Dwellings)

Painting a piece of card board for a base, and adding a sandy shoreline. This is craft sand and the wet paint holds it in place.

Sculpting Canoes

Finding a few great accessories to add in. This is a small totem from our trip.

Ava joined in on all of the fun!! She created her own paper plate environments (her choice) :)

Colouring Totem Poles for our Wood Houses

The totems we used were colouring sheets we found online, and reduced the size to fit.

Xander worked hard to make most of the items he used in the environments. He collected many things from the yard including: rocks, sticks, sprigs from our evergreen trees to use as tiny trees.

We used the largest craft sticks to make the wood houses with (supervision and great care) a hot glue gun.

I cut the craft sticks with a pair of heavy kitchen scissors.

A sneak peek at our next study in Part 3!!
